Spa’s are facilities that use spring or sea water that are rich in minerals to give medicinal baths traditionally, now they are associated with relaxation, purification and getting healthy. They are a very popular destination for tourists and locals alike and as such spa towns and resorts are common and offer a range of health-oriented treatments, this is known as balneotherapy. Mineral water has been believed to have medicinal properties since before written history and such practises are global, Europe and Japan are very much into their spa’s. Going to the spa for a day or afternoon is very common and they offer personal care treatments to suit your needs.
The word spa comes from the town of Spa in Belgium, which is a famous town dating back to the Ancient Roman society. Back then it was called Aquae Spadanae, and it was often mistakenly connected to the Latin word for sprinkle or moisten, “spargere”.
